At Birth Wellness, we offer the midwives model of care, focusing on pregnancy and birth as a healthy, natural, and empowering experience. The midwives model of care means mother and midwives are partners in midwifery care.
FREE CONSULT
We offer a free, one hour consultation visit which includes a full explanation of our services, who we are and what we do.

Our practice remains small to ensure we focus on the individual needs of each client and to ensure our availability when prenatal, birth and postpartum needs arise. We also have midwifery back-up for those rare occasions when women go into labor at the same time.
OUR MIDWIVES
We have a full time midwife, Carolyn Drake, and a midwife assistant to help meet the needs of mothers. An additional midwife, Jennifer Crook Moore, is involved in care for mothers from Birmingham. We also have part time apprentices who may be involved in your birth. We encourage mothers to acquire the assistance of a Doula.

Routine prenatal visits last an hour or more, enabling us to build a relationship involving trust, support and information. Visits are held once a month until 28 weeks, then every two weeks until 36 weeks, then once a week until the baby is born.

Throughout the process of childbirth, we guide, support and instill confidence in the birthing woman. We practice “watchful guarding” of the natural process, offering sensitive support and gentle encouragement, while ensuring the safety and well-being of both you and your baby. Waterbirth is an option for all mothers.

We do a newborn baby exam within the first two hours after the birth - right on your bed next to you. We don't separate babies from mothers. Your care will continue after the baby is born through 6 weeks postpartum. Newborn Screening is done within 3 - 4 days following the birth.

In addition to the visits and care listed above, all VBAC clients will receive counseling to cover any specific needs and preparation needed for a successful VBAC birth.

We offer gentle well-woman care including an annual exam, Pap test and informative discussions shaped around nutrition, exercise, holistic health, sexuality, self breast examination, parenting, family planning, and hormones. Annual exams may include other preventive health services.

You will want to find out what happens to your body as your baby makes his or her way into the world. Parents may take the Hypnobabies Childbirth preparation classes, taught by Carolyn. Fees for Hypnobabies are $200.00 (Birth Wellness Clients). Fees for non-clients are $350.00.

Laboratory tests are performed at a facility in Chattanooga. Many tests are not routinely preformed unless the client's condition indicates such tests are necessary. You may request or decline additional laboratory tests, including ultrasound.
